How do I start getting some capacity back?
I can’t keep doing this. I also can’t just stop.
This is for the gap between those two sentences — where most burnout advice quietly assumes you have an option you don’t have.
What you get
Mostly it gives you somewhere to start. When everything is urgent and nothing feels possible, the difficulty is rarely a shortage of good ideas; it is knowing what to do first. The Burnout Recovery Pathway has four parts — stabilise, protect, pace, sustain. They aren’t stages to climb and you’ll move between them, but the workbook starts with stabilise, because stabilising comes before anything clever.
Seven sections. You’ll use some and not others:
- Start here — how the workbook works, where to begin when everything is urgent, and the Permission Slip
- Understanding Your Burnout — what it actually is, what’s happening in your body, the burnout loop, workplace drivers
- Your Burnout Profile — a set of statements to locate your severity and your pattern, and a note for neurodivergent readers
- Stabilisation — five tools that work when you have nothing left, matched to your nervous system state
- Workplace Survival — workload reality check, disclosure decision guide, word-for-word scripts, return-to-work planning
- Recovery Path — what recovery actually looks like and why it isn’t linear, how to pace so you don’t crash again, how much you’ve got to spend, and spotting it coming back
- Close + Continuity — your plan on one page, a monthly check-in, and when to get more help
What changes is that the week has a shape. You know what you’re doing first, what can wait, and what you’re not doing at all right now. When a bad week comes, you have a smaller version of the same thing rather than a plan you’ve fallen off.
Pages to write on rather than read. Nothing has to be done in order, and every exercise has a bare-minimum version — so a bad week doesn’t cost you your place.
You are not meant to do all of it. Most people use a few pages at a time, in whatever order they need them. There’s no schedule and nothing to finish.
Next to the Overwhelm Reset System: that one is for when you can’t think straight right now. This is for getting capacity back.
Next to RECALIBRATE: the Kit helps you recover. RECALIBRATE helps you decide what has to be different afterwards.
Next to the Profile: two different questions. The Profile answers how far this has gone and what to do first. This answers how you start getting capacity back. The Kit contains the same assessment material within it, so if you already know burnout is the problem and want the structure, start here. If you’re still working out how far it’s gone, the Profile does that for $7 and scores it for you.
