About

You expected the work to be hard.
You didn’t expect the workplace to be harder.

Some work is demanding by its nature:

  • a busy shift
  • a distressed customer or patient
  • days that are simply heavy

But that’s different from:

  • being short-staffed every shift
  • being treated badly by someone you can’t avoid
  • being asked to do something you know isn’t right
  • asking for help and finding that becomes another problem to manage

Still Cracked helps you work out what’s making work so costly — and what might actually help.

What happens at work can affect you. What the workplace then does — an investigation, a process, a decision, a silence — can add to the strain.

Why Still Cracked exists

You can’t understand the impact of work without looking at the work itself.

When work starts affecting your health, the conversation can quickly turn to what you need to do: rest more, set better boundaries, manage stress, build resilience, get therapy or take time away.

Those things can help. But they are only part of the picture.

Burnout and psychological harm don’t happen in a vacuum. Workload, staffing, exposure to distress, poor support, workplace relationships, organisational culture, conflicting demands and what happens when concerns are raised can all matter.

Still Cracked exists to keep the workplace in the picture.

It helps people understand what may be happening, recognise what work has been taking from them, find ways to recover, and think more clearly about what they need next.

Because supporting yourself matters. So does understanding what you’re being asked to survive.

The person behind it

Suzanne Robertson

I’ve been a psychologist for more than twenty-five years. I work on the Sunshine Coast with burnout, trauma and the psychological effects of work.

What I kept seeing wasn’t only burnout. It was people whose work had cost them something real — health, confidence, sometimes a job they had been good at and cared about. And for some, dealing with what the workplace did about it became another source of strain.

My Master’s research was on burnout. At the time, much of the thinking about burnout was still centred on the individual — personality, coping, how well someone handled stress.

That has broadened a great deal since. Workload, working conditions, organisational culture and psychosocial hazards all get far more attention now.

What hasn’t gone away is the habit of treating a workplace problem as a problem with the person. Someone questions what happened and is told they’ve misread it, taken it too personally, or need to cope better.

Minimising what someone reports. Denying their experience of it. Shifting the responsibility onto them. Making their reaction the issue. None of that belongs only to families and close relationships. It can happen at work too.

Still Cracked grew out of wanting to look at the whole picture — the person, certainly, but also the work, the workplace, and what happens when something goes wrong.
